On Sunday night we hit our max capacity for showers at a three hour event, providing 18 showers to a mix of housed and unhoused neighbors.
One neighbor came out of the shower saying how good they felt and another responded with, “How does it feel to be back to sub-human?” When I asked what they felt like before the shower, they said, “Scum.” This response received many nods from other neighbors.
Showers are providing love, dignity and respect and our hope is that one day our neighbors will be seen as fully human, whether they are clean or dirty, housed or unhoused. ❤
